Sneak Peak
I got a sneak peak at the pictures we took Saturday by my friend, Joy McClellan. There are some wonderful photos of Whit...its hard to get an almost 3 year old to cooperate, smile, sit still and look nice for pictures, but she did a great job!! We got both posed and non-posed pictures and I like both! So, here is one to share with you.

YMCA Fit 2 Lead Costume 5k
After months of hard work, I ran my first 5k!! WOOHOO!! I started VERY slow using the C25k (couch to 5k) plan. Thanks to Amber for pushing me to do it in the first place and thanks to Sarah, Kimberly, Mary, Christine, Emmie and Caroline, all who at some point or another, got up at 5:45 and ran with me. Sarah, especially, started running with me and even showed up when i thought it was raining...thanks for sticking with it and with me!! love you!!
Oh, and I must say how wonderful it was running to the finish line. Since I was the last of "team candy corn" to finish, they were all the yelling and clapping for me...it really made the race special! Even though it was a race, i wasn't racing to get some certain time...just running to accomplish the goal of running a 5k...but i did have a time of 35 minutes 10 seconds. Christine finished 2nd in her age group and Sarah finished 4th in her age group...way to go girls!
Below are pictures from Saturday. Since it was a costumed race, i tie-dyed shirts to look like candy corn...Go Team Candy Corn!!

Belhaven Halloween Block party
Our neighborhood did a block party where they blocked a whole street off, had games, food, a band and trick-or-treating! It was nice to let Whit go house to house without cars coming through. Lots of his friends were there and we had a great time.

Red Beans and Rice Festival
St. Alexis had a team at the RB&R Festival again this year...and since it was on Halloween, Whit got to wear his costume yet again and go trick-or-treating! They had face painting so we took advantage of that and got his black puppy dog nose painted on. It turned out to be a beautiful day despite fear of bad weather.
Nana brought Whit all ready for trick-or-treating...he had spent the night at her house the night before and they had a great time!

RECIPES!
I want to share two recipes that are great for this fall weather! I made both this past Sunday and they are super easy. Enjoy!
PUMPKIN BREAD
This recipe was in the latest issue of the Metro Christian Living paper that comes out each month in Jackson. It said this recipe is one of Mama T's, the Tri Delta housemother at Ole Miss from the early 70's through the early 90's. It sounded good, so I tried it out and it is DELICIOUS!
3 cups sugar
3 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 cup oil
2/3 cup orange juice
2 cups pumpkin (1 can)
4 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Mix above ingredients in a mixer (or use handheld mixer like i have!)
ADD:
1 cup walnuts
1 cup raisins
Grease and flour 3 loaf pans. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. After an hour, check to see if bread is done in the middle, if not, bake for 5-10 minute intervals until done.
BREAKFAST MUFFINS
My mom made these all the time during the holiday months and they are so yummy and filling. I love that they keep in the fridge for 6 weeks!! That way you have them on hand for guests or just an easy breakfast on cold fall and winter mornings.
3 cups Raisin Bran
1/2 cup margaring/shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 beaten eggs
2 cups buttermilk
2 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Put 1 cup bran in a bowl and cover with 1 cup boiling water and add melted margarine. Set aside to cool. Mix remaining bran with sugar, eggs and milk. Add to first mixture and stir in remaining ingredients.
Bake in greased muffin pan at about 375 for 20-25 minutes. Batter will keep covered in refrigerator for up to 6 weeks.

Breathing treatments
Whit had to do breathing treatments this past week to help get rid of a nasty cough and from what the doctor said, bronchiolitis. so, we made it bearable by watching tv or reading books. here are a few pictures of Whit wearing his "medicine mask" as we called it. after a day or two, he was okay about getting his treatment and he loved turning the machine on and off...whatever makes him happy!
